Patchwork

A few months ago I really got turned on to thinking I'd start a new hobby. Actually, this is something I seem to regularly do and always end up not doing the thing for time reasons. I really started wanting to make the kids quilts. So I did the usual thing I do in this moment, I search the library for books, request them and pick them up. I started reading about quilting and within a few minutes decided that there's no way, I can't possibly figure all of this out and put enough time into it to actually have something nice at the end.

Well, this all changed for me a couple of weeks ago when Patrick's mother started trying to find quilts to buy for her family in Germany. She couldn't find any nice ones that weren't super expensive. So, having sewed for most of her life she decided to try it herself. Seeing her put them together gave me hope again and help.

So, for Christmas I did a tiny project for Gillian. Since the kids were getting new beds (and since Oma made Liam one) I made Gillian a patchwork pillowcase. I am so proud of it! I haven't sewed anything since I was 18 and that was one dress for my Laurel project. I did this without any sort of pattern, and it fits the pillow perfectly! Of course, the squares aren't all exactly alike. But I'm sure I'll get the knack of cutting soon. I'm hoping a play blanket for Cora will be next, maybe 40 x 40.

turning it right side out ... can't wait to see

Voila!

It really fits! I did it! I really did!
